Note of the National Secretaryship of the PCdoB on the arrest of Columbian activist

The Communist Party of Brazil energetically condemns the arrest
in Brazilian territory of the Columbian political activist Francisco Antonio
Cadena Colazzos, also known as Olivério Medina, demands his immediate
release and appeals to the government and the Judicial Power that they not
authorize his extradition.

Colombia has gone though more than has four decades of armed
conflict of a social and political character. The current Columbian
government, following the orders of North American imperialism, has adopted arbitrary methods and insists on taking the false path of criminalizing the
insurgency. Its repressive agencies do not respect the human rights of the political prisoners and, in collusion with the U.S. government, they extradite to the U.S. the insurgent fighters. Part of its policy is an attempt to involve neighboring countries in the persecution the leading members of the revolutionary forces. We alert the democrats of our country and the government agencies that the eventual extradition of Olivério Medina puts his life at risk.

The arrest in our country of activists of the Columbian insurgent movement is incompatible with the democratic nature and solidarity of the
Brazilian people and, far from contributing solutions, it creates obstacles to our country playing a positive role in the search of viable solutions to the Columbian armed conflict.

By solidarizing itself with Olivério Medina, the Communist Party
of Brazil reaffirms its support to the fight for democracy, independence and social progress in Colombia and reiterates its confidence that the people of the neighboring country will find the most just and effective means to carry out the struggle for its historical objectives.
