Brazil is celebrating! Brazilian people re-elect President Lula and defeats the right wing “coupe d’Etat “ attempt

A renovated Party, a sovereign and democratic Brazil, a socialist future

During a long and radicalized government dispute, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was re-elected President of Brazil. It was one of the most disputed presidential sucessions in the whole history of Republic, in which the right wing and its media system have invested furiosly to regain the government they have lost in 2002. But, this conservative political determination was stopped by the brazilian people, that since the very beginning of this sucession have made their choice and struggled for it. The Brazilian people have showed its force, its conscience and the people was the biggest winner in this historical October 29th, 2006.

It was a huge victory: Lula obtained 20 million of votes more than his adversary and a total sum of 58 million votes that indicates that the majority of the nation has approved Lulas’s first administration and that they are confident in Lula’s commitment that his 2nd mandate will be even more audacious , fulfilling, and above all, the development project with income distribution.

While reelecting Lula with a large advantage over his adversary, the brazilian people has clamourosly said “stop” to the right wing coupe attempt. It is also a cry to stop the hegemonic media, that used and abused of lies and manipulation. It is a lesson to the arrogant editors and columnists of the national press that have judged themselves as the tutors of peoples’s consciousness.

But his victory has another side that qualifies it even more. The exasperated ideas confrontation of the 2nd turn took to the choice of ballots boxes two different conceptions of Brazil, two antagonic political programs. In fact, the neo-liberal dogma was put in a trial. And it was reject by the people. The confrontation about the theme of privatizations has showed how much the neo-liberal though is discredited among brazilians. The coalition PSDB-PFL[1] reared by this rejection - - constated by recent public poll that has registrated 70% of repudiation to the privatizations – they have not political courage to assume their program and has adopted an ashamed neo-liberal posture

The foreign policy it was also a detached point in this programmatic confrontation. The Alckmin’s[2] candidacy made clear the conception of a dependent and subaltern Brazil, a subservient country to the United States of America’s Government. Lula’s campaign has reaffirmed his commitment with strengthening of the sovereign of the country and his compromise with a solidary process to contribute to the economic and social development of the Latin American countries. On this way, Lula’s reelection is an important fact beyond our frontiers. For this reason, his victory is celebrated by peoples of the Latin America region and by their progressive governments.

In this 2nd turn of the brazilian elections there was a radicalized, a polarized political and programmatic confrontation. The result of this is that Lula is reelected with the clear and explicit commitment to accelerate the reforms in the country. Lula is legitimated to rule a political and social majority, a strong coalition, with the main aim to conduct courageously the country toward the accomplishment of a nacional development project with income distribution
